Who’s got the courage to recognise the monster in the idol,

I look upon the misty wilderness, but the onetime landscape is a frozen memory,
Darkness covers the reality, where everything is just a shadow of itself.
Everything that’s visible is rotten, the snow of dawn covered everything,
The after-images of an invisible world are kept faithfully in a white veil.
Longing for the eternal life, sacrificing the life for good,
Underneath the snow-covered landscape the untouchable lies silenced.
Life imbued with death, the beginning closed with the end,
All the thoughts are infected with the ubiquity of passing away.
Everything is a finite and passing dream, awakening turns this illusion permanently into reality.
Who could think of something in which the end is not visible,
To choose life as empty and endless as a memory.

The atmosphere of this album is fantastic. Makes you feel like you're knee-deep in the trenches drenched in mud, filth, sweat, and blood. Truly encapsulates the horrors of World War I, and the fact that the lyrics of some of the songs are taken from old war letters really adds to the authenticity.
